Pediculosis (head lice) infestation has become a national epidemic, with over 10 million children and adults affected annually. Head lice affect more children than all other communicable childhood diseases combined, excluding the common cold. The nurse will be actively involved in the education and surveillance process and will make every effort to prevent and control head lice outbreaks. The district encourages parents to perform head lice checks of their own at home to help control lice outbreaks.

Head lice, although not an illness or a disease, is very common among children and is spread very easily through head-to-head contact during play, sports, and when children share things like brushes, combs, hats and headphones. Please monitor your child's head regularly and treat with a lice treatment if necessary.
